Zhang Guolau Bronze Metal Riding Horse Incense Burner Chinese Antique 8.75" Chinese immortal on a mule c. 1800-1900 Zhang Guo or Zhang Guolao , an elderly magician famous for his mule, which can travel great distances without rest. After a journey, this immortal simply folds up the mule and places it in his pocket. He is the patron of happy marriages and numerous offspring, two goals which need the help of magic. This is a two part bronze. The patina is brown and in good condition, no scrapes or pitting. The size is 7 1/4" wide, 8.75" high, the figurine is 5" This item is extremely patinated with patches of green, black, and gold gilt. Was forged and retains hand crafted irregularities in workmanship as would be expected for an early antique like this. In fair pre owned condition with some gilt loss, oxidation, and remnant irregularities in construction by the artisan, otherwise metal is solid and functional.
