Pig Dissection BioKit® with Dissection Mats

Product Details This classroom kit introduces students to mammalian anatomy through fetal pig dissection. Prior to dissection, students complete a prelab focused on diet. During the dissection, student explore the pig's external anatomy and then move internally to locate key anatomical structures by body system (digestive, urogenital, circulatory, respiratory, and nervous). Throughout this hands-on, engaging lab, students learn how structure relates to function and about the interdependence of organ systems. Post lab assessment questions and a glossary help reinforce learning. This kit is designed for a class of 30. It includes 15 Carolina's Perfect Solution® double-injected (red arteries; blue veins) pigs, 15 Carolina® Pig Dissection Mats, 15 self-locking storage bags, a roll of string, and a comprehensive teacher's manual with reproducible student guide. The teacher's manual contains procedural and preparation instructions, safety information, and more. The student guide provides step-by-step dissection instructions, labeled color photographs and illustrations, a prelab, assessment questions, and a glossary. Time Requirement Teacher prep, 20 minutes. Prelab, 30 minutes. Dissection, 90–120 minutes (or can be divided into multiple class periods). Assessment, 45–60 minutes. Prelab and Assessment can be completed as homework. Note: Carolina's Wetting Solution (items #220120A and #220121A) is recommended if completing dissection over multiple days.
